When the Spark Ignites...
Updated: Feb 1, 2020
In 2017, I tore my ACL while training to become a kids' yoga instructor.
But that isn't my most vivid memory of the year. What I remember is my partner saying to me, "You'll need a hobby for when you're recovering from surgery - you should write a book or learn to draw or something."
That evening as I went to sleep, this idea played in my mind. The spark had ignited, and it roared into a flame all on its own.
Even after I had started, I didn't believe that I would actually write this book. I knew my own history of starting new hobbies and projects - I would eventually give up or get bored or realize how much work it would involve and change my mind. In writing and illustrating a graphic novel, there is definitely a lot of work involved, but here I am!
It's now been two and a half years since dislocating my knee - I've had surgery and fully recovered. I'm still in the drafting stages of the book, and am nearly ready to send it out to beta readers!
Now I know you're wondering, how exactly did I tear my ACL while doing kids' yoga? Well, that's a story for another time!
